Free bleeding or how to have a period and not wear a pad

Maybe you are thinking that we have gone crazy but everything has an explanation. And it is that when many had just discovered how comfortable a menstrual cup can be and others turn to cloth compresses to avoid creating more waste with the usual disposables, there are those who have managed to go through life menstruating without wearing more than a few ordinary knickers without staining them! How do they do it? That we would like to know, that is why we have investigated it and the truth is that we are hallucinating and for the better.

What is free bleeding?

At a time when every gesture counts and defines us, deciding to join a movement like free bleeding is not without meaning. But beyond a feminist claim, or ecologist if you hurry me, free bleeding is about many other things. It is about knowing our body, connecting and taking control over it and naturalizing something that, luckily or unfortunately, happens to (almost) all of us . It may sound crazy, but it all makes a lot more sense than you think right now.

Monthly bleeding is inherent to being born a woman and, unfortunately, in many parts of the world there is no choice but to bleed freely because there is no access to hygiene products . However, this is not going to go with stained pants, or that a trickle of blood runs down your legs if you wear a skirt, no. This is about you deciding when to stain, that it is you, with the muscles of your vagina, which holds the blood until you go to the bathroom and expel it. Yes, that easy and that complicated.

How to bleed freely without staining yourself

Those who do free bleeding say that it requires a lot of practice and that you have to be very patient when getting to it. After all, our body is not a tap, but we can make it look quite similar. Through meditation and visualizations, we become aware of the signals that our own uterus sends us and that indicate that a moment of bleeding is approaching.

As you already know, the uterus undergoes contractions, hence that horrible pain that we sometimes feel, to expel the blood and if you are attentive you can learn to identify them, tighten the muscles of the vagina, in a similar way to how it is done with the Kegel exercises, to hold the blood until you can expel it in a safe place.

In any case, each woman should be free to choose the way in which she wants to experience her menstruation, with compresses, with tampons, with a cup, with nothing at all … Especially since most of us have no choice but to put up with it. her until we come to menopause –and what it then entails– and we already have enough with that, so that on top of that we mess with each other for what we put on or don't put on.
