Tired of garbage cans always smelling like hell? We have the solution. Apart from trying to lower the garbage every day so that it does not accumulate and take on a bad smell, as well as periodically cleaning the bin (one of those responsible for the house smelling bad), there are several tricks to neutralize its bad smell. And none of them require cleaning products that can be toxic to health or the environment.

The most effective tricks

  • With baking soda and essential oils. In addition to cleaning and disinfecting, baking soda (one of the most effective household cleaning products) is also super good at removing bad odors, because it acts like a sponge that traps them. Just sprinkle a tablespoon of baking soda on the bottom of the garbage cans and change it every one or two weeks. And if you also want it to give off a good smell, you can impregnate it with a few drops of the essential oil that you like the most. The lemon one, for example, is perfect when you want to give a feeling of freshness and cleanliness.
  • With cat litter. Another homemade trick to face the bad smell of the garbage is with sand like the one used for the boxes where cats relieve themselves. These arenas are specially designed to absorb liquids and bad odors, which is why you can use them in the garbage. How? Very easy. You just have to put a layer of about 3 or 4 centimeters on the inside base of the cube and that's it. And as in the case of bicarbonate, change it every one or two weeks.
  • With lime or lemon juice. Citrus not only provides a fresh and clean smell, it also fights bad odors. The trick to taking advantage of this property in order to prevent garbage from smelling bad is to squeeze the juice from a lime or lemon, pour it inside the bucket, let it dry and place the bag normally. As in the other tricks, for it to work, the operation has to be repeated every one or two weeks.
