Decorate the house for Christmas

Christmas is one of the most special celebrations of the year. It is full of symbolism and spirituality and allows us to reunite with our loved ones. A reason more than enough to have the house ready to receive them in a big way. If you want this year to be very special, don't miss our tricks to decorate the house at Christmas and fill it with magic.

Prepare a real party table

  • Tables If there are many of you and you do not have a large table, you can join several smaller ones, use trestle boards, put the children on a lower one, or arrange auxiliary furniture next to where you can leave drinks, trays, and thus gain space in the head table.
  • Tablecloths The most classic is to put a long one that reaches the ground. If you don't have one that long, put two clear ones at the base and a shorter one on top, what a contrast. You can also opt for placemats or a tablecloth combined with several table runners to define the place of each diner.
  • Ornaments. A large central ornament as well as distributing smaller items throughout the table works well. And as decorative details, use plant elements (flowers, pinecones, branches, autumn fruits) or the same ornaments that you have used to decorate the tree and the house (balls, stars, lanterns, candles …).
  • Crockery, glassware and cutlery. If you do not have complete sets and, on the other hand, you have several that are missing a piece, a solution is to combine them by alternating plates, glasses and cutlery from one to the other, or by creating symmetries: in the tips the pieces of a tableware and in the center those of the other, etc.
  • Chairs If you need to use chairs from other rooms or folding, you can find fabric covers for about € 20 to unify them all. And if not, you can do as with the crockery and glassware: alternate them or distribute them symmetrically so that the whole is harmonious despite the variety.

Good ideas to decorate the tree

  • Rustic style. To make your tree look very natural, one possibility is to opt for a snowy pattern and cover it with untreated wood ornaments, linen or sackcloth bows, and balls in ecru tones, all combined in the same colors.
  • Colorful and full of magic. It consists of combining ornaments in three different shades (pastels if you want a more nuanced effect, or bright if you are looking for a more striking effect). And light it up with a garland of dim lights and as simple as possible if you don't want it to take away from the decorations.
  • Traditional, with red, white and green. They are the classic colors of Christmas. Just look for stars, balls, bells and other decorations in these shades and happily spread them around the tree.

The magic of gifts everywhere

Placing a few gift-wrapped packages under the tree or next to the hall dresser gives a party feel and fills the house with magic. In addition, it can help you camouflage or hide the foot of the tree, whether it is a plastic pot or a metal foot. You only need wrapping paper and shoe boxes, for example, arranged horizontally and vertically. But, so that it does not break the harmony of your home, try to choose the wrapping paper, bows and ribbons with which you are going to wrap them to match the tones of all the decoration. This will avoid unwanted contrast.

And that Christmas reaches every corner

  • Candles From tea in glass tealight holders, candles of various sizes in candelabra or inside lanterns, vases or glass containers … Candlelight and its aesthetics bring magic to any corner of the house. Put them in places where they are highly visible, such as a window ledge, coffee table, or on tall furniture. And group several different ones to create centers full of light.
  • Strings of cards hung on windows or in hallways. They can be bought or also made by hand: some painted, others with figures of fabric and felt, others cut out with Christmas shapes (stars, hearts, trees …).
  • Furniture shelves with vegetal touches. Put a green base with pine branches, eucalyptus or moss, so that it fills the entire shelf, and place pine cones, balls, garlands of light …
  • Customize the gift wrapping. With photographs or other elements such as bows, garlands, bells …
