The crux of the matter
The crux of the matter
True: ordering everything at once (as recommended by Marie Kondo, the Netflix reality show order guru and author of The Magic of Order) can be a real odyssey when we don't have the time (or the will) to do it. But what we can do is take advantage of those five dead minutes that we have left between tasks or at certain times of the day to tackle specific areas and get rid of weight. Thus, when it comes to cleaning and order seriously, it is not so difficult and everything is much easier.
The cutlery drawer
The cutlery drawer
Empty it, classify the cutlery and utensils by categories, and while you do it, discard the pieces that are broken or damaged, duplicated or that you no longer use.
- Take the opportunity to wipe the drawer and then put everything back in neatly ordered.
The pantries, the refrigerator …
The pantries, the refrigerator …
Choose one of the places where you keep your food (the canned cupboard, the fridge …) and spend five minutes on it. Remove the things, check that nothing has expired and superficially clean the furniture.
- When you are going to put everything in its place again, group the different types of food and put what you need most at hand, as well as what is about to expire in the front line.
The broom
The broom
Another corner where you can put order in the blink of the closet is the broom or the place where you keep the broom, mop and cleaning products. Check what you have (we often don't use many products because we don't even remember we have them).
- Organize things so that you have access to them. And make a list of the things that you are missing for when you go shopping.
A drawer of clothes
A drawer of clothes
It is not about ordering the entire closet, but only a specific area of it or the place where you keep your clothes. In five minutes you can organize the drawer for underwear, shirts or socks, for example. And so you will save time and effort when you go to order the entire closet or dressing room.
- Take advantage of the time to save again to fold the clothes with the Marie Kondo method and order it chromatically as the order guru recommends, so it is easier for you to choose and combine the clothes, and fold it.
Makeup products and utensils
Makeup products and utensils
How long have you not checked your brushes, eyeshadows, mascara, and other makeup products? In a few minutes you can take a look at them, get rid of what is spoiled (yes, makeup also expires) and organize everything a little.
- To put order you can use cases and boxes with compartments that will make it easier for you to have everything at hand and controlled.
The jeweler
The jeweler
It is another of the black spots of the disorder. Separate necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. Put aside the ones that are damaged or have missing parts, and decide whether to get rid of them or have them fixed, but do not put them back. And organize and store again what you keep.
- So that the necklaces do not tangle, use pieces where you can hang them or a hook on the inside of the closet door.
Toys
Toys
If there are children at home, you can take advantage of those five minutes that you have left to put some order in the children's toys. Take a couple of minutes to empty one of the baskets and drawers and go through it. Group similar items together and set aside those that are no longer used, outdated, or damaged.
- If they are toys that are fine, but you no longer use or are out of age, collect them and donate them to a charity.
The paper work
The paper work
Open the drawer or take the pile where you are accumulating papers, correspondence or receipts and put it in order. It groups what is in two groups: to keep or to throw away. And then organize what you have decided to save and put it on your site.
- File cabinets and document trays work really well for organizing paperwork.
Desk utensils
Desk utensils
You also only need a few minutes to organize everything you have on your desk or work area.
- You can use cups, glasses, or canning jars to group utensils or use them as pencils. So everything is ordered and at hand. Or get a desk organizer that suits your needs.
Bathroom cabinets
Bathroom cabinets
Pick a bathroom cabinet, either where you keep your personal hygiene products, a medicine cabinet or a towel rack, and give it a run.
- First, get things out; review them to know which ones to keep and which ones to throw away; clean the furniture and, finally, put things in their proper place.
