Surely you have already read more than one post on Instagram about the famous Korean double cleaning and surely you have a face of "and how do I do this now?". Well, if you are curious and want to know more about the steps involved or are not very clear about what products you need, pay attention because we are going to tell you step by step what that double facial cleansing is. Thanks to the book The Korean Art of Skincare by Miin Cosmetics we have learned a little more about this wonderful technique. Shall we start?
What you need to do the Korean double facial cleansing
The Korean double cleanse consists of just what you are thinking about, cleaning your face twice. If you regularly only use makeup remover wipes or wash your face in the shower with body wash, you are doing your skin a disservice. It is important to use specific products for the face and to do a much more thorough cleaning than simple wipes can provide.
Where to start? Well, according to the book The Korean Art of Skin Care (Zenith Editorial) you should have an oil-based cleanser and a water-based cleanser on hand . The first is easier to identify because it is usually made very clear on the product bottle or can even be identified with the naked eye. But it is that the seconds are easier to differentiate still because they are all the others. If you turn the product over and the first ingredient on the label is water (Aqua), you already have it.
What is each cleaner for?
With the first step, that of the oil cleanser, we manage to undo all traces of makeup and sunscreens, but also clean the dirt that accumulates in the pores and ends up turning into the blackheads that we all hate. With the water-based cleaner, the one that you probably already use, we apply a more specific cleaning for our skin type (if we have acne-prone, dry, sensitive …).
When do you have to do this double facial cleansing?
Korean double cleansing can be done every time, whether or not you wear makeup, and both day and night. And the fact is that the oil-based cleanser is capable of going much further than the water-based one in removing all kinds of impurities, not just makeup . So, you know, expanding your facial cleansing routine by adding one more step can make a difference to your skin and it won't take much longer.
Step by step for a Korean double facial cleansing
- With dry skin, you should apply the cleanser in oil, do it directly with your hands. This way you save product and heat it with your own body heat so that the makeup comes off more easily. Insist on the eyelashes but do not rub, do it with gentle movements and always in the same direction. Rinse with water.

2. Remove excess water and apply, also with your hands, the water-based cleanser, massaging it onto the face for one minute. Insist on the 'T' area (forehead, nose and chin), which is where we tend to have more oil, rinse with plenty of water and pat dry with the towel.
