Make wrinkles disappear and have a smooth face without looking like a wax doll, that is what many women want after 40 years . But of course, we have a lot of respect for aesthetic medicine - not to mention surgery! It is hearing about lifting and a face stretched out and without expressiveness comes to mind. Fortunately, techniques and treatments that previously sounded like a distant universe, only within the reach of celebrities, such as botox or hyaluronic acid injections, have now become "popular" and are available to many more women … And yes , also from our pockets.

This is the case of the tensioning threads, which landed in Spain many years ago, but it is now, after having gone through a "filming" season, when the material and technique have been perfected, achieving very natural results. Do you want to know more about these threads also known as magic threads?

For whom are tension threads indicated?

Those who most demand this treatment are those women whose facial oval has become blurred over time due to the appearance of flaccidity. With this treatment they recover the smoothness and firmness of the skin of the face and, if necessary, of the neck.

They are also used for "small arrangements" such as smoothing crow's feet, thus improving the contour of the eyes, or on the eyebrows, reducing the sensation of droopy eyes and opening the gaze more. The most common is that 4 threads are applied per session, two on each side of the face, in the cheekbone and jaw area. Then, in each particular case, it will be assessed whether more threads should be applied.

Can the tensioning threads be applied to other areas of the body apart from the face?

Yes, any area that is flaccid, such as the inside of the arms or thighs, knees, buttocks, chest or abdomen. In the case of legs and arms, between 30-40 threads are usually placed for each joint.

The threads are also indicated for buttocks that have flattened due to age, since they achieve a certain redensification or to reaffirm excess skin in very thin women. In both cases, there should be no associated fat. This technique is also very successful in people with mild or moderate sagging in the region immediately above the knees, provided they are not overweight.

What is the tension wire technique?

After a precise diagnosis (it is very important to put yourself in the hands of qualified aesthetic doctors to decide the number of threads to apply and the combination of their length), the protocol, which causes little discomfort, consists of:

1. Apply an anesthetic cream to the area to be treated and leave it to act for 20-30 minutes.

2. Mark the area to be treated with a surgical pencil. A series of vectors are drawn to identify the areas to be treated

3. Implant the threads at the dermal level with the help of a very fine gauge needle, which serves as a guide. Once inside, the threads are anchored, then the needle is withdrawn and the thread remains inside. This step, depending on the area to be treated, lasts between 30-45 minutes.

What material are tensioning threads made of and how do they work?

These are polydioxanone (PDO) and polycaprolactone (PCL) yarns. Although their names sound strange to you, the important thing is that the material is resorbable, so it does not present contraindications or side effects.

Once implanted, it is formed as a net or mesh that produces an immediate retention of the tissues with a lifting effect. Although the maximum point of correction is achieved after 2 or 3 months. since the threads are collagen inducers, that is, they stimulate the production of new collagen. The mechanism of action of the thread is to stimulate the generation of collagen and elastin creating a kind of "ball" around the mesh that will last after the reabsorption of the threads.

How long do the tensioning threads last?

No, the result is not final, hopefully! The body naturally reabsorbs the threads, the result being effective between 15 and 18 months. During this time, the activity of fibroblasts and the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin is taking place, so the tightening effect is prolonged.

How much is the treatment with tension threads worth?

It depends on the area to be treated and the quality of the material. The more extensive the area, the more expensive the treatment, because more threads are needed.

  • Face: around € 300.
  • Small body zone (for example, knees): 600-800 euros.
  • Wide area (for example, abdomen or legs): 1,000-1,300 euros.

Is recovery time needed?

It is a totally outpatient treatment that, once finished, produces a slight inflammatory reaction, which usually subsides quite quickly. In the event that the application of the threads is corporal, physical exercise cannot be performed during the week after performing the treatment. During the following 4-5 days you may feel discomfort at bedtime until the threads are adjusted and accommodated in the body, so try not to move too much or perform rough work.

Complementary treatments for tensioning threads

In many centers, ultrasounds, radiofrequency or a mesotherapy session with vitamins, amino acids and hyaluronic acid are recommended to enhance the results of the treatment. In the latter case, additional hydration is achieved that contributes to the rejuvenation of the skin. And at home? Find out what anti-aging acids can do for your skin.
