Initially, the World Health Organization included only three symptoms that could warn of the presence of the coronavirus in the body: fever, cough and difficulty breathing. However, little by little it has been adding new indicators to take into account when detecting the disease. In addition to the three ailments presented by most of those affected at the beginning of the pandemic, there are other symptoms that appear in many cases that end up being positive and that should be taken into account, although the organization insists that “you must always take into account Mind that each person can be affected in a different way ” . Therefore, the evaluation of the patient must take into consideration many aspects before closing the diagnosis.
Different professionals have detected that, among the new symptoms that are being detected, is headache, which is exposed by patients in 14% of cases.
"Headache is one of the most common symptoms, in fact it is the seventh in the position in the range of reasons for consultation" , says Dr. Nicole Martín, specialist in Internal Medicine at HC Marbella and member of Top Doctors and explains : “Isolated headache is not a symptom of coronavirus infection. Hence the importance of taking a complete anamnesis of the patient to place this symptom in a complete clinical picture. The differential diagnoses of headache are multiple (migraines, blood pressure rise, tension headaches …) With knowledge of the patient's history, it is possible to guide the possible origin of the headache. It could be an alarm from the body that something is wrong, it is smart to listen to the body ”.
In any case, the fever so present in those infected by coronavirus tends to cause annoying headaches on many occasions: “A patient with fever has a good chance of complaining of a headache and the association of the two symptoms in the current context could make one suspect the diagnosis of coronavirus. If, in addition, it is associated with a cough, it will be necessary to consult the corresponding authorities to carry out a test to corroborate it ”, concludes the specialist.
