Avoiding scratches and other damages on the parquet and showing off a perfect floor is possible if you follow the advice that you will find below.
- Clean it regularly. Vacuum the parquet once a week, this will prevent the grit or solid particles that have been deposited on it from scratching it. Then, mop very wrung out with a special product for wooden floors.
- Choose suitable products. Avoid products that have a high acid component or that contain waxes or silicones. In the long run, they end up damaging the parquet and dulling it.
- Remove stains quickly. If a stain occurs, it is essential to clean it as soon as possible so as not to give it time to penetrate the wood. If it is a liquid and has seeped through the joints, use a blow dryer on low power to prevent moisture from building up.
- Protect it from the sun. The powerful sun rays lighten it and can spoil it prematurely. The best thing to do is to draw the curtains or lower the blinds whenever you are not at home, to reduce your exposure to the sun.
- Avoid humidity. Moisture is one of the worst enemies of parquet. It affects you whether there is a lot, when the wood warps, or if there is little and the environment is very dry, since then it cracks. Ideally, the humidity should be around 35-65%
And if, even so, you have been scratched or stained …
Take note of these tricks to remedy it.
- Scratches on dark parquet. If it has been scratched, lightly sand the area with a very fine sandpaper, apply Judea polish, allow it to penetrate, and then clean the parquet normally.
- Scratches on light parquet. A solution against scratches is to rub them with half garlic if the wood is very light. Or with a walnut if it's a little darker.
- Deep scratches. Go lightly with fine sandpaper and fill the scratch with wood wax. If it is very deep, use hard wax. And then, apply Judean, garlic or walnut bitumen depending on its hue.
- Marker stains. Wipe with a blotting paper, then clean with a solution of the juice of half a lemon. And clean it normally.
- Glasses brands. Try putting a mixture of mayonnaise and bicarbonate on them. Apply heat with a blow dryer, but not too close, and clean.
