In a summer in which traveling outside our borders is presented as complicated but in which disconnecting as much as possible is going to become a priority, there is nothing like immersing yourself in reading a good book and we have found the ideal one to this vacation. It's called You carry her name and it's the new novel by one of our favorite writers, Carmela Díaz.
Travel to Mexico, present and past
You bear his name is one of those books that catch you from the first pages. The author embarks us on a fascinating trip to Mexico, a country that she knows perfectly, and is capable of transporting us to its most genuine corners such as Tulum and Holbox. "There is no location that I have not lived and experienced in person," says the author. "The characters sleep, eat, drink and enjoy themselves in places where I have slept, eaten, drunk, enjoyed … I have traveled the Yucatan peninsula to talk with its people, even with people who were born and lived in henequen haciendas last century ”.
And this story begins when the protagonist decides to go to Mexico to sell a henequen hacienda that was in the possession of her family when a hotel chain offers it for a small fortune. Katherine arrives with the idea of staying there just long enough to solve the sale, but the discovery of two corpses at the farm will make her stay longer than she had planned . She soon discovers that one of the corpses is that of one of her ancestors, Guadalupe Montenegro, but who was the other? As you try to discover what happened to them, you will be trapped in the myths of the Mayan civilization and will live your own history.
The novel constantly moves between the past and the present , between the lives of these two women just as they change forever. We do not want to reveal much more about the plot but we have found it the perfect novel to immerse yourself in it during the summer (although we doubt that it will last you more than a couple of days because it is totally addictive).
Carmela Díaz is the author of six novels and collaborates in different written media. His previous work, Love is the answer, was a great success and if you liked it, you cannot miss this one. You're going to love it!
