We don't need excuses to enjoy a good book, but… we love that year after year there is a day that turns reading into a party.

That is why we have marked April 23 in red in our agenda to enjoy the usual bookstores and the stalls that are set up on the street and that allow us to walk, admire covers and review back covers in search of that book that catches our attention (or those books, because sometimes it's hard not to go home with more than one).

But there is so much offer and so much to see, that it is not easy to select one. Therefore, in our gallery we make a selection of the editorial news, so that you already have ideas to make your choice.

A world day born here

Book Day is, since 1995, a global celebration thanks to the International Union of Publishers and the Spanish government, which presented the initiative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

But the idea of dedicating a day to the book came from the Valencian writer Vicente Clavel Andrés, who presented it to the Official Chamber of the Book of Barcelona in 1923 and which was authorized by King Alfonso XIII in 1926. In Catalonia, this festival joins to that of Sant Jordi, for this reason the gift of the book is added that of a rose, a symbol of love.

Since then, this initiative has not stopped gaining followers and spreading to other cities around the world. Coincidence or not, April 23 is the date of birth or death of great writers, such as Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, Garcilaso de la Vega, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla or Manuel Mejía Vallejo, among others.

And in addition to ideas for you, we also have ideas to give your son or daughter a book (if they don't already have their own wish list).
