If you notice your skin is well hydrated, comfortable and does not begin to show signs of age, you have been right with your cream and you do not need to change it. But…. If you don't feel comfortable, you start to see more marked wrinkles, etc., you could be in need of a change.

At 35-40 years -or earlier in drier skin-, the skin becomes more demanding and is no longer satisfied with a simple moisturizer. This is when the eye contour, serum and anti-wrinkle creams become necessary.

When to change your face cream?

It is advisable to use another facial cream when the needs of the skin vary significantly, whether due to age or other causes, according to Marisa Betés, Marketing Director of Ternum Cosmetics, specialists in Research and Development of Cosmetic Products. To have perfect skin, you have to change your facial cream, not so much so that the skin does not get used to the same active ingredients as to give it what it needs, because the skin is evolving. These factors can influence you:

  • Stress. Some circumstances can alter the skin and cause the usual cream to be changed momentarily. In specific cases of stress, it is normal for the skin to "rebel" and, perhaps, it is necessary to use an anti-redness cream. Or if at certain times the rhythm of life causes our skin to show signs of fatigue, it would also be a good idea to resort to a shock treatment with a cream that contains vitamin C, which provides a lot of luminosity.
  • Sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun without adequate protection is very likely to result in blemished skin. Therefore, in addition to the usual day cream, you should add a sunscreen during the day and a depigmenting one at night.
  • The polution. It is another of the conditions that can make a cosmetic change advisable. Women who live in big cities notice how their skin looks duller, more gray, due to the pollutants present in the atmosphere. Hence, in recent years many laboratories have been formulating creams with anti-pollution actives that also incorporate a sun protection factor.
  • Season changes. In places where the winter is very cold and the summer is very hot, it would also be advisable to change the cream. In the first case, more nutritious formulas should be chosen, which protect and strengthen the skin's natural barrier; and in the second, for lighter textures and high sun protection.
