Dry shampoo: a lifesaver

Dry shampoo: a lifesaver

I have wavy and oily hair. I am also a warm person and sometimes I sweat. I hate the feeling of heavy or dirty hair and that's why I wash it almost every morning. For the days when I can't wash it –because I go to the gym at noon or for whatever reason– it is very good for me to use that wonder called dry shampoo on roots and sideburns.

What exactly is dry shampoo? Olga G. San Bartolomé, professional hairdresser at Backstage BCN and Clara.es hair expert, explains that dry shampoo is basically talcum powder with very small particles that trap dirt, masking it for a few more hours. Olga advises a specific use, since in no case does it clean the hair and as its composition is astringent, it could dry out our skin and hair. The particles surround the dirt, so when we apply it we notice the hair with more body. It is precisely for this reason that dry shampoo is also used to give volume to fine hair. It is also very good for refreshing the fringe, which is always the first area of the hair to get oily.

There are two types of dry shampoo: those that base their composition on absorbent starch particles - rice for example - and others in which alcohol is the main ingredient. Olga recommends using the particles, as alcohol dries the scalp. In English they use the word starch (starch) to name the particles, in case you want to look at the ingredients of the one you are going to.

Dry shampoos usually leave a white powder - the famous particles - at the root that must then be removed. I have light brown hair and it is not difficult for me to make it go away, but for more dark people it can be quite annoying, especially if you have gray hair, since they are accentuated more. That is precisely why there are special dry shampoos for dark hair.

I discovered dry shampoo a few years ago, I have tried many brands and I will explain them all. But first, let's see how to apply it to be effective.

How to use dry shampoo

  1. Comb and detangle your hair. If you have it curly skip this step.
  2. Shake the shampoo bottle.
  3. Go separating strands of your hair and spray a little shampoo at a distance of 15-20 centimeters.
  4. Let it act for a few minutes.
  5. Shake your hair with your hands and brush. Drying works too.
  6. If you have it curly don't brush it, just shake it off.

Let's go with the analysis of dry shampoos. Some prices may seem a bit expensive because they are sold in packs of more than one unit.

Perfumes Club

€ 2.99

Schwarzkopf GLISS Dry Shampoo

It is one of the most popular and is easy to find in supermarkets. It smells good, citrusy, but it doesn't work for me. It is a dry shampoo with more alcohol than particles and I don't notice that it cleanses my hair. It costs a lot to remove the white powder that leaves you at the roots.

Druni

€ 2.99

Batiste dry shampoo

I present to you my favorite dry shampoo brand: Batiste. It is a British brand that used to be difficult to find, but is increasingly being sold in more accessible places, such as Amazon or Carrefour, for example. It is the classic dry particle shampoo. Leaves the root white when you apply, shake or comb and boom! clean hair. It has many aromas and versions. I like the Original, it is a very fresh and slightly strident aroma. I have also tried the cherry one, ideal if you like sweet smells); the Volume XXL (it does give the roots a lot of volume, but leaves it stiff; and the Batiste for blondes, which works quite well.

Amazon

€ 11.70

Herbal Essences Dry Shampoo

This shampoo is very well priced and, although its main ingredient is alcohol, it has worked quite well for me. It smells great and has an ideal travel format. It is found in supermarkets and drugstores with ease.

Promofarma

€ 8.29

Klorane dry shampoo

This shampoo is special for sensitive scalps since it contains oats, as well as rice. Leaves hair super clean.

Druni

€ 3.95

SYOSS dry shampoo

I have recently discovered this shampoo and I really like it. It is not applied in a spray but in a foam. It does not leave the white root - ideal for brunettes - it spreads a lot and smells very good. The price is also unbeatable.

Sephora

€ 7.95

Puff & Go dry shampoo

This Sephora dry shampoo is environmentally friendly as it is not a spray. It hardly carries alcohol; its main ingredient is rice. It does its job but smells too much like talcum powder for my taste.

Perfumes Club

€ 4.89

TRESemmé dry shampoo

Although it is mainly alcohol based, I also like it quite a bit. The downside is that it ends very quickly.

Urban Care dry shampoo

Urban Care dry shampoo

It has a formulation that seems very effective to me, the hair lasts a long time clean. And it smells wonderfully good of coconut.

Urban Care Dry Shampoo in Primor, € 3.75

Lookfantastic

€ 23.45

Shu Uemura dry shampoo

Olga G. San Bartolomé highly recommends this brand of dry shampoo to us. It is special for colored hair.
