Sensitive skin is an unstable type of skin that easily reacts to any external factor, such as changes in temperature, sun exposure, dryness of the environment or the application of some cosmetics. In it, periods of dryness and irritation usually alternate with redness and peeling or rashes. It is also possible that you simply have sensitive skin or that you have rosacea.
Sensitive skin reacts to any external factor
The bad news is that sensitive skin is not something we can "cure" with some treatment, but rather it is something we have forever. The good? Not only are there a multitude of creams or cosmetics to take care of it, but there are also certain habits or tricks that prevent us from triggering a reaction in it. Take note of these tips to maintain and care for the balance of sensitive skin.
Exfoliation ritual
While combination or oily skin needs a weekly exfoliation, for those who are sensitive this is a time of risk. Therefore, it is advisable to do it every 15 days or even once a month. When you do, avoid scrubs with granules and substitute them with a natural sponge or relaxing face masks. And no squeezing and rubbing! Make gentle movements and, above all, when finished, use a protective and soothing moisturizer that restores comfort to your skin.
Bet on quality cosmetic products and don't go "cheap"
How to make up sensitive skin
Forget about cheap products anywhere and bet on quality. In pharmacies they have from makeup bases to chemical-free and dermatologically tested masks, so that they are harmless for your skin. Also, use a concealer according to the type of reaction you have. Greens neutralize reds (ideal for hiding veins or rosacea), yellows hide dark circles, and oranges, bluish veins.
And remove your makeup!
We also have to pay special care when removing makeup, as we are "provoking" our sensitive skin. You can use makeup remover milk or micellar water, or a syndet tablet, a cleansing bar that does not contain soap and maintains the pH of the skin without attacking it. The downside of the latter is that if you live in places with hard water, such as the Canary Islands or the Mediterranean coast, the level of calcification of the water is very high, and this counteracts the benefit of syndet.
If this is your case, use a make-up remover that does not require the use of water, such as cleansing milk or micellar water, and apply it gently with make-up removal pads. If this also causes your skin to become irritated, spread the cleanser directly on the palm of your hand and apply light pressure using a suction cup effect until the makeup is removed. To finish, spray a few touches of thermal water to calm and desensitize the skin.

Be careful with extreme temperatures
Sudden changes in temperature cause blood vessels to dilate and contract abruptly, which leads to their rupture in the case of sensitive skin. Therefore, if you want your skin to remain comfortable, the hot and cold contrasts of your gym's spa, for example, are not for you. Also try to avoid long exposures to the sun, as well as very dry places, since they contribute to dehydrating and drying the skin.
But most of all, relax
Sensitive skin must also be cared for from within. Stress, lack of sleep and the emotions that we have affect the state of our skin. Try to take it easy, think about the here and now, and practice meditation or yoga exercises to help your emotional balance. You will see how your skin thanks you! If you can't disconnect, follow these steps to say goodbye to stress.
