Home insurance: things that it covers and that you do not imagine

Table of contents:

Anonim

It is a minority who bother to read their insurance policy cover to cover. As a consequence, many times we end up paying for things that are already covered by home insurance without our knowing it, which does not help us save. And not only that, but also, sometimes, it is precisely having these coverage that makes our premium more expensive, increasing the expense even more. Here is a sample of the clauses included by some companies in their insurance and that we often do not know:

1. Robbery on the street

It is logical to think that the insurance will take care of a robbery inside the home, but what we usually do not know is that sometimes it also covers losses caused by a robbery on the street. Some policies even take care of damage to clothing caused by the incident. In many cases, for insurance to cover theft, there must be intimidation or violence.

2. Theft of credit cards

They cover the economic losses caused by the theft of credit cards or their fraudulent use, as well as savings books or checks. The coverage not only includes the policyholder, but also any person residing in the domicile covered by the insurance.

3. Damages to third parties

Also known as civil liability. The situations it covers are very varied. Some that we are often unaware of are, for example, the unintentional breakage of someone's glasses, the damage that could be caused to a car by the fall of a flowerpot from the balcony, the breaking of a moon by our son when playing football or damage caused by a pet to a person or their property.

4. Travel assistance

There are companies that, in case of being on vacation and falling ill, take care of all the expenses that this implies: hospitalization, return transport, repatriation in case of death of the insured … And if it is a relative (a child, for example ) those who are traveling and ill, also bear the costs of the insurance policyholder's travel there, as well as those derived from accompanying him to the hospital.

5. DIY service

Assemble some furniture, hang a lamp, put some plugs …? Also in the policy? Yes, there are those that include a “handyman” service, which covers the cost of an operator's travel and the first hours of labor, yes, with a limited number of visits. If you don't have it, think about it when it's time to renew …

6. New technologies and the internet

Coverages are included that range from mere computer assistance via telephone (and if necessary, travel to the home of a professional) to making backup copies of the computer or smartphone, or the location and blocking of mobile devices in in case they are lost or stolen.

7. Electrical damage

They cover damage to electrical appliances in the event of a power failure, a short circuit or a power surge. In this sense, they also include food that, even when inside the refrigerator, is spoiled due to a power cut or because the appliance has been spoiled for any of the above reasons. There are those that also include a white range appliance repair service , which includes the cost of the technician's travel, the first three hours of labor and the materials used.

8. Lock change

While some insurances only cover the new lock if your keys have been stolen, others also do it when you have lost them (and if you are clueless, it is good for you to know, don't you think?).

9. Legal assistance and defense

The service includes the possibility of simply making a legal consultation by telephone or, if necessary, it also covers the expenses incurred by legal representation in case you have to claim damages, are involved in a criminal process or carry out any labor claim, among other assumptions.

10. Glass breakage

When we say glass, we are not referring to glasses or other tableware items, but to pieces with a more fixed character, such as window panes, mirrors … They are even responsible, in case of breakage, for the replacement of glass-ceramic plates, marbles. , granites, stone and sanitary ware.

11. In the kitchen

They also assume damages if the oil in the pan catches fire and the cooker hood is damaged. In the event that the pressure cooker accidentally explodes and that affects the kitchen furniture, they also bear the cost.
